Blues music, born from the African American experience and rooted in the Deep South of the United States, is a raw and emotionally charged genre that serves as a poignant reflection of life’s struggles and triumphs. Originating in the late 19th century, blues is characterised by its distinctive 12-bar chord progression, soulful vocalisations, and expressive guitar work. It delves into themes of hardship, heartache, and resilience, capturing the essence of the human condition. Pioneering blues artists such as Robert Johnson, B.B. King, and Muddy Waters paved the way for the genre’s evolution, influencing a myriad of musical styles that followed. Blues music, with its ability to convey profound emotions through haunting melodies and evocative storytelling, stands as a testament to the enduring power of musical expression in capturing the essence of the human experience.
